THIS MONTH'S
NEWSLETTER - JANUARY 2010
STARTING AFRESH
'Once I started seeing through the eyes of my heart, instead of a
socially conditioned lens, things started to transform dramatically.'
Jonathan Mead
I'm not a great fan of new year's resolutions. Most people I know make them
and break them within a month, then beat themselves up about that.
Personally I'm more inclined to look at what I enjoyed about the year just
gone and consider what I'd like to do more of. I spend a little bit of time
thinking about the things I didn't achieve and ask myself whether these
goals were actually meaningful to me, whether they are aligned with my
values or whether they were someone else's idea about what I should be
doing. (I'm still a bit of a sucker for saying yes to things that please
other people so each year I continue to chip away at that).
I'd love to be able to say that I made it to gym three times each week last
year...I had such good intentions but often something got in the way.
Instead of leaving this objective on the list untouched, I go back to my
values to help me work out why it's not working.
My highest values are inner harmony, connection, family happiness, health
and creativity. One of the places I feel most creative and most at peace is
in nature. On a sunny morning I'd prefer to get up early and walk along the
beach than go to the gym and this is something I often found time for last
year. If I change my intention and set up two of those walks with my
daughter I'll be honouring my values of connection and family happiness - as
well as the value of health.
