Last week I had a lovely conversation with Ashli Templer from @yoursonlyco. She had recently read my book and invited me to join her as a guest on her podcast.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ash was a wonderful interviewer who asked some really thoughtful questions. Sharing my story with her was a reminder that being lost in my career direction was ultimately what gave me the role that I have loved for almost twenty years now.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And reflecting on my childhood reminded me that there are things in my life I have loved for as long as I can remember.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I've included a link in my bio in case you'd like to listen. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I hope it inspires you to realise that (like I did for so many years), you may already know what you're passionate about. Sometimes you just need the courage to pursue it. ✨

“The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.” John Muir⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I was a little girl, I lived in a place called Frenchs Forest where the gum trees were enormous, just like these. Not far away, was a glistening sea.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After the rain, the air smelt like eucalypts.

Over four decades later, I live a long way from there but when the trees are washed clean by an overnight downpour, the smell is exactly the same. And I’m transported back to that place.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s moments like these that are my way of finding what Muir calls the “Universe”. All involve a deep connection with nature. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What about you? What are yours?🌿

You may know that I share my meditations on the @insighttimer app, but did you know they also have hundreds of amazing audio courses available too?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Most are either 10 or 30 days in duration and they include a little bit of theory and a meditation. The lessons are brief so they're easy to fit into a busy schedule.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As you can see from this pic (taken a while ago now!) my course is about building self-belief. In it, you'll learn how to balance the negative bias of the brain, create a more positive and compassionate relationship with yourself and live with a greater sense of purpose.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

"Let go of who you think you're supposed to be. Embrace who you are." Brené Brown⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Last week I wrote about quietening your inner critic and revisited this quote by @brenebrown. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It reminded me that the cause of all of our internal critical chatter is exactly this. The thought that we need to be something other than what we are.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here's an invitation for you this week. Instead of comparing yourself to anyone else or wishing you could be something more, allow yourself to be happy with yourself, exactly as you are right now. ✨⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Most of us have an internal voice that is vigilant at noticing our flaws, but not very good at seeing our strengths.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Finding a balanced and rational inner narrative is one of the best ways to build your sense of self-worth. But it doesn't happen overnight – it's an ongoing practice.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It begins with catching yourself when you're being self-critical. Once you have that awareness, you can start to relate to yourself in new and healthier ways.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Try these tips to quieten the voice of your inner critic. You may find it helpful to re-read them every morning for the next few weeks (feel free to bookmark them if it makes it easier to remember).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A daily commitment to changing your thoughts can help you change your relationship with yourself. ✨

"The miracle is that we are here, that no matter how undone we’ve been the night before, we wake up every morning and are still here. It is phenomenal just to be." Anne Lamott @annelamott

Just over a year ago, I made myself a promise to walk every morning - not just because it's good for my physical wellbeing but also because it's a daily practice in mindfulness and gratitude. ⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It made such a difference during COVID. Along with my weekly walk (and sometimes swim) with my dear friend Barb, that simple half hour ritual was my saving grace.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What about you? What is it that is getting you through? 🙏
My dear friend Carrie @drcarriehayward has written this beautiful little book as the first in her Being Human series. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Woman Who Lost the Sun is the story of Winnie, who becomes distressed when she encounters unwanted change in her life.

Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy teachings, the story reminds us of how a mindful approach can help us deal with life’s challenges and live a more purposeful and meaningful life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Perfectly timed after the year we’ve just had, this lovely little book is available from Carrie’s website, www.carriehayward.com 🙌
If you've paid a visit to the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne in recent years, you'll know @janereiseger Jane Reiseger’s beautiful artwork. Her nature-inspired images are a welcome distraction for children and families who visit the hospital and a reminder that even during difficult times, art can be a place of refuge.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Over the decade I've known Jane, her work has been prolific and varied. As well as the hospital project, she's illustrated children's books, painted murals in cafes and collaborated on designs for children's clothing, toys and wall stickers.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Jane lives on the Mornington Peninsula, not too far from me. When she's not making art, she spends lots of time in nature, walking her dog and swimming on our beautiful local beaches.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As part of Melbourne Design Week (which commences on 26 March), architects Bates Smart are holding an exhibition titled 'The Art of Distraction' exhibiting some of Jane's original illustrations.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I interviewed Jane on the blog last week as part of my 'Changemakers' series. Head to the link in my bio @total_balance and have a read. The exhibition is online as well, so make sure you take a look! ✨
