My mum is pretty fearless. She’s one of those people who is great at fundraising and a natural saleswoman, which is pretty much the exact opposite to me.
I’ve learned a lot from her though. She has taught me that if you don’t ask, you don’t get and you need to take responsibility for creating opportunities in your life – rather than sitting back and waiting for things to land in your lap.
I thought of her last week when I saw an email from my all time favourite blogger, Leo Babauta from Zen Habits. I’ve been following Leo’s work for seven years so I was excited to hear that he’s writing a new book that will be a culmination of many of his teachings.
Leo’s email included an invitation to request an interview with him. Initially, I hesitated, thinking he’ll be looking for big time blogs, not smaller audiences like mine. Then I decided to take my mum’s bold approach. I stepped in and shot him an email. I’m so pleased I did – Leo wrote back within hours. A friendly, cheerful email saying he’d love to chat.
I’ll post the interview next week to coincide with the launch of Leo’s Kickstarter campaign. I think you’re going to love his tips on how to create change in your life.
I hope you’re brave enough to ask for what you want this week. The worst thing that can happen is a “no” and the best thing might be an unexpected win.
