Almost four years ago (around the time this photo Almost four years ago (around the time this photo was taken), Chris and I were planning a tree change and so excited about finally realising our ten-year dream. What we didn't know was that just a few weeks after arriving in our new home, we would also be dealing with a major health crisis.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In an article in today's @theageaustralia, I wrote about how we navigated our way through Chris' cancer diagnosis and how in some ways, it changed our lives for the better. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Thankfully, he was one of the lucky ones and his health and prognosis are now very positive.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Mid-way through last year, I struggled to write the final chapter of my book. We'd been in lockdown for a couple of months and I'd been writing for close to a year. I was so near the finish line but somehow the words just weren't there.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I was a week over deadline and completely frozen.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"What I feel like doing," I said to my daughter, "is taking the day off and going to the hot springs." Which felt entirely irresponsible given it was one of the final two days I had negotiated to write.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"Go," she said. "Just do it."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And that is exactly what I did. It was the middle of winter and there was a momentary break in restrictions. The mineral springs were open and when I arrived there, the place was incredibly quiet. Stepping away from the world for those few hours gave me the space I needed to think.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Later, I took my notebook to the dining room and while I waited for a pot of herbal tea, that final chapter just wrote itself.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’re feeling stuck or can't find the clarity, the inspiration or the energy to complete a task or to think straight, maybe it will help to step away from your usual routine. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Shut down your email, turn off your phone and take yourself to a place where you can find quiet. If it’s not possible to leave home right now, create some mental space by listening to a few guided meditations or doing an online yoga class. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Once you find your way to stillness maybe you'll also find (like I did) that the answers you need are already here. ✨
